Class Data Set

Mastered: 6 points
Proficient: 5 points
Not Proficient: 4 points
and under
From the class data that was collected, I figured out that 55% of my students demonstrated mastery of the learning target. They were able to not only communicate the animal's needs, but went above and beyond. This tells me that more than half the class is now able to 'teach' other students about the needs of their animal and we are ready to move on to the next topic.
Based on my data set, 30% of my students showed proficiency of the objective. By earning at least 5 points on the assessment, these students met most of the requirements but missed one point. This informational lets me know that 85% of the class (55% attaining mastery, 30% as proficient), is ready to move on and have demonstrated understanding of the learning target.
15% of my students did not reach proficiency and earned a score of 4 or lower on the assessment. These students missed two or more components involved in the assignment. This data lets me know that I have to work with this group (3 students) on a more individual basis regarding the needs of animals. Class would progress as usual (to ensure that the 85% who do understand do not lose valuable learning time) but I would work with each student and allow re-dos so each student could have the same chance to show me that they have learned the target objective.

Data Based on Animal Choice
Students who chose to draw the habitat and label needs of a chimpanzee demonstrated 88% mastery and 12% proficiency. This indicates that this animal was taught effectively and students were provided with an appropriate amount of pictures and/or resources to observe the animal in its' habitat and its' needs.
Students who chose to draw the habitat and label needs of a penguin demonstrated 57% mastery and 43% mastery. Again, this indicates that this animal was taught effectively and students were provided with an appropriate amount of pictures and/or resources to observe the animal in its' habitat and its' needs.
Students who chose to draw the habitat and label needs of a dolphin were 40% proficient and 60% did not meet proficiency. 20% more students did not show proficiency than did. This indicates that this animal was not taught effectively and students were not provided with an adequate amount of pictures and/or resources to observe the animal in its' habitat and its' needs. This tells me, as a teacher, that I must have missed an important element during instructional regarding the habitat and needs of the dolphin.
